Ms. Acherman focuses her legal practice on medical malpractice and professional liability defense, commercial litigation, appellate litigation and litigation support in cases involving constitutional and complex procedural issues, including jurisdictional issues in domestic and international litigation.
Ms. Acherman graduated magna cum laude from Florida International University's College of Law, where she was a Dean's Scholarship recipient and a member of the Law Review. She received CALI Book Awards for Excellence in Alternative Dispute Resolution, Professional Responsibility, International and Comparative Law, and Immigration Law. Her Law Review comment on environmental justice was published in the FIU Law Review.
Ms. Acherman is a second-career attorney. Prior to entering the practice of law, she obtained her Ph.D. in Sociology. During her career in academia, Ms. Acherman conducted research and taught doctoral, graduate and undergraduate students. Ms. Acherman also wrote grant proposals, including a grant proposal funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She then became Project Director for this Evaluation Program.
Ms. Acherman is admitted to practice in Florida and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. She is a member of the American Bar Association and the Florida Association for Women Lawyers.
A resident of Miami since 1990, Ms. Acherman is a native of Brazil who has also lived, studied and worked in Israel. In addition to English, she is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish and Hebrew. |
